The Three Gorges of the Yangtze River is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

The Three Gorges starts from Baidi City in Fengjie, Sichuan Province in the west to Nanjin Pass in Yichang, Hubei Province in the east, with a total length of 192 kilometers, consisting of Qutang Gorge, Wushu Gorge, Xiling Gorge, as well as the broad valleys of the Xiangxi River and the Daning River in between the three gorges.

In 1995, it was honored as one of the “Ten Famous Scenic Spots of China”.

The Three Gorges Project is known as the Three Gorges Water Conservancy Hub Project of the Yangtze River.

The entire project consists of a mixing and gravity dam, spillway sluice gates, a back-of-the-bank hydroelectric power plant, a permanent navigable ship lock and a shiplift.

The Three Gorges Project is divided into three phases, with a total construction period of 18 years.

In the first phase of 5 years (1992-1997), the main works, in addition to the preparatory works, mainly carried out the first phase of the cofferdam filling, and the excavation of the diversion nullah. Construction of longitudinal concrete cofferdams, as well as the construction of the left bank temporary locks (120 meters high), and began the construction of the left bank permanent locks, climbing machine and the left bank part of the stone dam section of the construction.
